An independent perspective from another occupational physician
Sometimes it can be valuable to have an opinion or an ongoing sickness absence case reviewed by an independent occupational physician. For example, when there is uncertainty about the most appropriate course of action or when an employee would like additional clarity. The Occupational Health Physicians Bureau is affiliated with the National Pool of Second Opinion Occupational Physicians (LPBSO).

When is a second opinion appropiate?
A second opinion may be helpful when:
- there is a need for an independent review of an existing medical opinion
- the employee has concerns about the current course of action
- there is a difference of opinion regarding the employee’s fitness for work
- the situation is complex and additional guidance is required
Whatever the situation, a second opinion can help bring clarity, reassurance, and confidence in the way forward!
How Does It Work?
Onze werkwijze is snel, digitaal en zonder onnodige stappen zoals je van ons gewend bent.
- The employee on sick leave completes the medical authorization form (available for download on this page) and sends the completed form to his/her own occupational physician.
- The employee’s own occupational physician then completes the online application form by clicking “Apply directly” on this page and submits the request for a second opinion.
- The employee is invited to attend a second opinion consultation at our office in Eindhoven. During this appointment, an independent occupational physician reviews the case and discusses the employee’s situation and concerns.
- Immediately after the consultation, a report will be written containing the findings and recommendations of the second opinion occupational physician. Once the employee has reviewed and approved the report, it will be forwarded to the employee’s own occupational physician for further consideration.
